Healthy Eyes

The starting point of any healthy diet is plenty of coloured fruits and vegetables each day.

The recommended quantities by Dieticians Australia, is 2 pieces of fruit and 5 serves (1 serve =1/2 cup) of vegetables a day. These generally contain higher levels of anti-oxidants that protect your eyes by reducing damage related to free radical oxidizing agents that cause age related eye disease.

Lutein is an essential anti-oxidant and is found in green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale. Vitamin A and Vitamin C are also essential for healthy eyes so eat plenty of carrots, squash and fruits. Omega 3 fats are the best for your eye health. This means fish, canola oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil. Eat fish four times a week. The best fish are tuna, salmon, sardines and mackerel.
